Best Gaming Monitor
for PCs

A player who uses a console gaming system like Nintendo, Playstation or Xbox, is likely to hook his system up to a gaming-friendly HDTV. But if you're into PC gaming, you'll need a PC video monitor to display the action.

Now when it comes to gaming, there are monitors and then there are gaming monitors. If you have a budget-level computer and are not interested in enhancing your gaming graphics to the max, then just play on your current monitor; you're not likely to know what you're missing!

But if you have invested in an upgraded gaming PC,  then by all means give some thought to buying a decent gaming monitor to go with it.

What's the use of having that Nvidia graphics card and beefed up processor power if you don't have a monitor capable of displaying those awesome images in superb detail and without blurring and flickering?

It takes a gaming-friendly video monitor to take advantage of the new technology and to immerse you in a whole new world... the amazing realm of modern 3D video games.

What Should I Look For?

A low-quality video monitor can flaw the display of your beloved games with blurred images, flicker, tearing, and other motion defects.

Screens designed specifically for gaming have several hardware upgrades which keep these distracting phenomena either at a minimum or from occurring at all.

So pay attention to these three essential elements when choosing your best gaming monitor:

Our studied picks for the best gaming monitor

Best Gaming Monitor

Resolution means how many pixels or tiny specks are in a display. Higher resolution provides much clearer and sharper images, with better contrast and detail.

Full High Definition (like your HDTV) is decent, with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution.

27-inch or bigger monitors (Wide Quad HD or WQHD) can have up to 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Better picture!

4K displays at an astounding 3,840 x 2,160 resolution.

*Don't forget that higher resolution at these levels requires a seriously powerful graphics card. You must have both; a great monitor and a substantial GPU, in order to enjoy PC games as they were intended.

We recommend for GPU: AMD Radeon R5 or R7 (R9 is high-end) or Nvidia GTX-1060, or better.

Refresh Rate

Screen tearing caused by low refresh rateScreen tearing caused by low refresh rate.

Refresh Rate= How many times per second a monitor is capable of re-displaying the image.

A slow refresh rate can mean flickering or tearing (2 frames of video are shown together in a single frame, causing a "torn" effect.)

A 60Hz (hertz) refresh rate was the standard for many years; and most LCDs still refresh at that rate.

Look for a monitor with a 120Hz or higher refresh rate; this is pretty much required for active 3D technology.

Note: with 4k, you have to sacrifice some refresh capability in order to enjoy the sharper, more detailed super high-resolution image.

Panel Size & Shape

Ultra-wide Monitor

Bigger is better when it comes to gaming monitors!

If you are ready to match a new monitor to your upgraded gaming PC, then some tips:

  • We suggest a minimum of 27-inch HD screen for decent game viewing.
  • A 30-inch or bigger 4K or UHD monitor can deliver an awesome 3,840-by-2,160 resolution!
  • 34-inch and up to 38" video monitors are available; some with curved screens.

Aspect ratio: Is the width by height of the screen. Older monitors were more square, at an aspect ratio of 4:3; modern screens are usually 16:9; and the latest and greatest are the Ultra Wides, which carry an aspect of 21:9.

Consider getting an Ultra Wide curved panel screen to enjoy a splendid panoramic view of your gaming field. Imagine the entire battlefield spread before you on a massive 38" Ultra Wide Curved Vista!

TIP: Before you go bananas here, take out a tape measure and make sure you have room on your desk for one of these monsters.

Don't go bananas! Measure your desk space before ordering that 34 inch monitor!
